Pepper in our tier list
B Pepper hits hard from range, and players report the ultimate pins or paralyzes the monster when it lands. Rapid fire needs an airborne start, though, and Keres covers the Disruptor role with less setup, which fits our B definition. See the full Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List.
Pepper strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Powerful shots from range let Pepper deal damage while staying out of the monster's reach.
- Players report the ultimate paralyzes or pins the monster, giving the whole squad a free attack window.
- A Perfect Guard reloads the Heavy Bowgun at once, and special ammo refills over time or on hits.
- Pepper is the only Heavy Bowgun user among the 13 Adventurers.
Weaknesses
- Rapid fire needs a skill that sends Pepper airborne first, more setup than Keres needs in the same class.
- A missed ultimate projectile means no paralysis, so the main team tool depends on aim.
- One player reports no event or shop route for Pepper, so recruitment is the only way in.
Our take
- Day-one paper call: keep Pepper if Pepper drops, and do not restart an account for Pepper. The 300-recruit exchange can go to Pepper only after you own Arkaya.
- In a squad, Pepper earns a place on our team list for ranged pressure and the paralysis window players report. That view rests on the kit and those reports rather than any hunts of ours, and the placement gets another look on November 1, 2026.
Our day-one ranking has Pepper in B tier: useful, but not top. The Heavy Bowgun fires powerful shots from range, and players report the ultimate can paralyze or pin a monster when the shot hits. Keres does the Disruptor job with less setup.
One player reports Pepper comes only from recruitment, with no event or shop route. Our Monster Hunter Outlanders SSR tier list weighs Pepper as an exchange pick.
What the official card tells us
The official card lists strong Heavy Bowgun shots fired from range, and certain skills lift Pepper into the air before a burst of rapid fire. Per the official weapon overview, the gun carries several ammo types, and the special ones are limited but come back over time or when shots land. A Perfect Guard reloads instantly, and Wyvernheart switches to heavy fire. On paper, Pepper’s job is to stay in range and pace that ammo.
According to players, the ultimate paralyzes the monster or pins it in place, buying the squad a free attack window, but a missed projectile means no paralysis. One player reports the effect lasted about 10 seconds in the closed beta tests and also caught flying monsters.
Where Pepper fits in a squad
Our best team list places Pepper in A, above Keres, because a shooter can reach whichever part the Co-Op Skill targets, and a paralyzed monster lets every squadmate pile on.
The overall B comes from comparing Disruptors: rapid fire asks Pepper to get airborne first, while Keres just chains fast combos. One top-ranked beta player reports Pepper was the strongest Adventurer in the second closed beta, with damage cut from the third beta on.
For partners, Rhodes can turn a paralysis window into a full Hammer charge, Madelyn boosts allies near detonated Spores, and Arkaya shielded the whole squad during the closed beta tests.
What we will check after launch
Pepper is on our recheck list for November 1, 2026, a few days after the October 28, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (October 29 in Asia) launch. A placement moves only if 2 or more independent player tests with numbers agree. Also open:
- How often the ultimate’s projectile connects with a moving or flying monster.
- How fast special ammo refills over a normal hunt.
- Whether Pepper shows up on the 300-recruit exchange list.
We log every move, with the reason, in the tier list changelog.
What to pair with Pepper
- Rhodes: A paralyzed monster gives Rhodes room to charge the Hammer and spend stored energy, turning the window Pepper opens into heavy damage.
- Arkaya: During the closed beta tests every squad member shared Arkaya's shield, which protects the melee fighters Pepper supports from range.
- Madelyn: Madelyn heals with medicines and boosts nearby allies through Spores, team help that the Pepper card does not list.
Pepper FAQ
Is Pepper good in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Pepper is good but not top, so we place Pepper in B for day one. Powerful Heavy Bowgun shots and an ultimate that players report pins or paralyzes the monster make Pepper useful, but Keres covers the Disruptor job with less setup.
How do I get Pepper?
Through recruitment. One player reports Pepper has no event or shop route. Pepper is in the standard SSR pool, and the 300-pull exchange on the standard recruitment would be a sure way in if Pepper is on its list.
What does Pepper's ultimate do?
Players report the ultimate paralyzes or pins the monster in place, opening a free attack window, but only when the projectile hits. One player reports the paralysis lasted about 10 seconds in the closed beta tests and worked on flying monsters too.
Was Pepper nerfed?
One top-ranked beta player reports Pepper was the strongest Adventurer in the second closed beta and that Pepper's damage was cut from the third beta on. This is a single report, so we treat it as unconfirmed.
Should I reroll for Pepper?
Not on paper. Our reroll tier list points a fresh account at Arkaya instead. Pepper is worth keeping when Pepper shows up, but not worth another run.
Is Pepper better than Keres?
It depends on the list. Overall, Keres is A and Pepper is B, because rapid fire needs an airborne start. On our best team list, Pepper ranks higher, since ranged fire and the paralysis window suit the Co-Op Skill.
What weapon does Pepper use?
The Heavy Bowgun. Pepper is the only Adventurer who carries it, and the weapon offers several ammo types, an instant reload on a Perfect Guard and a heavy fire mode called Wyvernheart.
Is Pepper good for beginners?
Yes, fairly. Our beginner list puts Pepper in A, since shooting from range keeps a new player out of the worst hits. The airborne rapid fire takes a little more practice.
