Arkaya in our tier list

S In the closed beta tests, Arkaya's shield reached every squad member. Testers in the closed beta also report low personal damage, but protecting the whole squad is worth more, which fits our S definition. Now that the game is live, we will recheck it. See the full Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List.

Arkaya strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • In the closed beta tests, Arkaya's shield went to every squad member, so one Resolve blow protects the whole team at once.
  • Resolve fills while Arkaya keeps attacking, so the kit rewards staying busy on the monster instead of waiting.
  • The Lance keeps Arkaya near the monster, and its official overview lists several guard options and counters that come off a block.

Weaknesses

  • Testers in the closed beta report that Arkaya deals low personal damage, and that the gear that helps arrives late.
  • The squad shield is confirmed only for the closed beta tests, so live hunts still have to show it works the same way.
  • The skill empties the whole Resolve bar, so we expect a badly timed blow to leave Arkaya with nothing stored.

Our take

Day-one call, not a played result: take Arkaya for the squad shield, whether you control Arkaya or fill a squadmate slot, and pair it with a damage dealer such as Luka or Pyro. Testers in the closed beta report low personal damage for Arkaya, and that partner covers the gap. Now that the game is live, we will check that the shield still reaches the squad.

Yes. Arkaya sits in S tier on our day-one list. In the closed beta tests, Arkaya’s shield went to every squad member, and that team protection is the main reason. Testers in the closed beta also report low personal damage, but shielding the whole squad is worth more. Now that the game is live, we will recheck both points.

What the official card tells us

Arkaya’s whole kit points at one moment: a single heavy hit that also wraps Arkaya in a large shield. Getting there takes patience. Resolve, the meter behind that hit, only grows while Arkaya keeps attacking at a steady rhythm. The skills that cash it in empty the full bar at once, so every payoff starts a new build-up.

The card stops there. It gives no numbers, no cooldowns and no shield duration, and the official skill video does not name who receives the shield either.

Two general rules help this loop. Melee weapons in this game have Sharpness, but it does not drop when you attack, so there are no whetstone breaks between Resolve cycles. Arkaya can also use Perfect Evade like everyone else: a dodge timed to the instant an attack would land opens special follow-up moves.

What the closed beta tests showed

Gameplay videos from the closed beta tests answer the shield question. When Arkaya gained a shield, an extra layer of health on top of the normal bar, every squad member gained it too, and the ultimate is one way to trigger it. Two independent sources show this, so we treat it as confirmed for the closed beta tests.

The same tests point to a weakness. Testers in the closed beta report that Arkaya’s own damage is low and that the gear that helps arrives late. A second team effect now holds up as well: in the closed beta tests, Arkaya also raised affinity for the whole party, and two independent sources show it. We have not played the game ourselves, so all of this comes from other players’ reports.

Where Arkaya fits in a squad

A squad holds four Adventurers. Solo, you control one and three more fight beside you as AI squadmates, so Arkaya can be the one you play or one of the three. Online, we expect each player to control their own Adventurer, but that is not confirmed yet. On paper, Arkaya belongs near the monster, trading hits and using the shield to stay there longer. That leaves room for ranged partners. Madelyn brings the one ally boost written on any official card, and Luka adds piercing arrows from a distance. A squad of Arkaya, Madelyn, Luka and one more damage dealer looks balanced to us on paper, and the extra damage matters more given the low-damage reports.

Arkaya is one of 4 Support Adventurers. The other three are Madelyn, Haze and Ryunosuke, and none of their cards mention a shield. That unique tool, and the fact that it reached the whole squad in the closed beta tests, is why we place Arkaya in S on our tier list, using the rules in how we rank.

The Co-Op Skill should suit this style too. For it to land, every other squad member has to strike the part the first Adventurer chose, and all four draw from one shared energy pool. A Lance user who already stands next to the target should find that easy to follow, though we expect it to vary by monster.

What we will check after launch

Servers opened on October 28, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (October 29 in Asia). Now that the game is live, these questions come first:

  • Whether the shield still reaches the whole squad, as it did in the closed beta tests.
  • How low Arkaya’s personal damage is at launch, and when the gear that helps shows up.
  • How long Resolve takes to fill with steady attacks.
  • Whether the heavy blow is easy to land on a moving monster.

Some post-launch player rankings put Arkaya in B. So far those are opinions, with no timed or damage data behind them. We keep Arkaya in S for two team effects from the closed beta tests: the shield reached the whole squad, and Arkaya also raised affinity for the whole party, which is now confirmed. We recheck the placement on November 1, 2026 and move it only if 2 or more independent player tests with numbers, from arena solo rankings or timed runs, agree.

If the launch version shields Arkaya alone, the low personal damage would carry more weight, and we would review the S placement and record the change on the launch version page.

What to pair with Arkaya

  • Madelyn: Madelyn adds a written boost for nearby allies on top of Arkaya's squad shield, while Arkaya holds the close range.
  • Luka: Luka adds piercing Bow damage from range, which covers the low personal damage that testers in the closed beta report for Arkaya.
  • Pyro: Pyro builds very high burst by enduring attacks, so we expect a squad shield to make that trade cheaper while Pyro fills the damage gap.

Arkaya FAQ

Is Arkaya good in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Yes, on paper. We rank Arkaya in S because, in the closed beta tests, Arkaya's shield also went to every squad member. Testers in the closed beta report low personal damage, and we judge the team protection worth more. The ranking comes from official material and other players' closed beta reports, not our own play, so it may change.

What weapon does Arkaya use?

Arkaya uses a Lance. Ouyang Varen is the only other Adventurer with that weapon, but Ouyang Varen is an Assault, so the two kits aim at different jobs.

What class is Arkaya?

Arkaya is a Support. The roster has 4 Supports in total: Arkaya, Madelyn, Haze and Ryunosuke. Of those four cards, only Arkaya's mentions a shield.

Does Arkaya give team buffs?

Yes, in the closed beta tests. When Arkaya gained a shield, every squad member gained it too, and the ultimate is one way to get it. Arkaya also raised affinity for the whole party in those tests, which two independent sources now confirm. The official skill video shows the shield without saying who receives it, so now that the game is live we will recheck both.

Who should I pair with Arkaya?

Madelyn and Luka are our day-one picks. Madelyn adds a stated boost for nearby allies, and Luka adds piercing damage from range. Testers in the closed beta report low personal damage for Arkaya, so Luka covers that gap. Solo, either can sit in one of your three AI squadmate slots.

Is Arkaya's damage low?

Testers in the closed beta report that it is, and that the gear that helps arrives late. No damage numbers are published, so we give none. Arkaya holds S for the squad shield, not for personal damage.

Is Arkaya good for beginners?

We expect so. The loop has one clear rule: keep attacking to fill Resolve, then spend it. Adventure Mode, with its Attack, Evade and Burst buttons, should keep the inputs simple too.
