Luka in our tier list

S Mobility plus piercing ranged damage should work in nearly any squad or hunt, which is what S means on our list, even without an ally buff. See the full Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List.

Luka strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • The card rates Luka's mobility as very high, which on paper makes it easier to stay out of reach and keep shooting.
  • Thunder Coating arrows pierce through targets, and we expect that to let one shot connect with more than one spot.
  • Luka is the only Assault Adventurer with a ranged weapon, so the squad gets damage without another body in melee.

Weaknesses

  • The card lists no boost, heal or shield for allies, so Luka brings damage and nothing else to the squad.
  • Stronger arrows depend on precise casts, so we expect missed timing to mean weaker shots.

Our take

Day-one call: choose Luka if you want to deal damage and stay safe. Practice precise casts early, because the card ties the stronger Thunder Coating arrows to them. Now that the game is live, we will report how forgiving that timing is.

What the official card tells us

Luka rewards clean timing. Land a precise cast and the Thunder Coating arrows that follow get stronger. Those arrows do not stop at the first thing they touch; they pierce through targets. On a large monster, we expect a single shot to strike more than one point along its path, but the card does not spell that out.

Between shots, Luka moves fast. The card rates Luka’s mobility as very high, which should make it easier to reposition when a monster turns or charges. The class is Assault and the weapon is a Bow, so the role is plain: deal damage from a safe distance.

What the card leaves out matters just as much. There is no shield, no heal and no boost for teammates. Everything Luka gives a squad comes through damage.

Where Luka fits in a squad

A squad holds four Adventurers: solo, the one you control plus three AI squadmates, and online, as we expect but has not been confirmed, one per player. Either way, Luka works as the back-line shooter. A melee partner such as Arkaya can stay close to the monster while Luka circles at range. Madelyn is the other Bow user on the roster, and since Spore boosts reach allies near the detonation, two archers standing together could share that effect.

Luka is one of 5 Assault Adventurers, alongside Midori, Rhodes, Pyro and Ouyang Varen. Those four all carry melee weapons, so Luka is the lone ranged Assault pick. That gap in the roster is a big part of the S placement on our tier list.

Range also helps with the Co-Op Skill, which needs every squad member to strike the part the starter picked. An archer can swap to that part from a distance without walking into danger, at least on paper.

What we will check after launch

The game launched on October 28, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (October 29 in Asia). Now that the servers are up, we want answers to these:

  • How strict the precise cast timing is, on touch controls and on a controller.
  • Whether piercing arrows reliably reach several parts of one monster.
  • How Luka compares with the other ranged picks, Madelyn and Pepper.

Our ranking method is in how we rank. For a weapon-level view, see the weapon tier list.

What to pair with Luka

  • Arkaya: Arkaya fights up close, and in the closed beta tests Arkaya's shield reached the whole squad, Luka included, while the arrows land from range.
  • Madelyn: Madelyn boosts allies near a Spore detonation, and as a fellow Bow user Luka can stand close and still shoot.

Luka FAQ

Is Luka good in Monster Hunter Outlanders?

Yes. Based on the official kit we put Luka in S. High mobility and piercing Thunder Coating arrows should give safe damage in almost any squad, though this is a day-one call.

What class is Luka?

Luka is an Assault Adventurer, one of 5 in that class. The other four, Midori, Rhodes, Pyro and Ouyang Varen, all carry melee weapons.

What weapon does Luka use?

Luka uses a Bow, the same weapon as Madelyn. Those two are the only Bow users on the launch roster of 13 Adventurers.

Does Luka give team buffs?

No, not according to the official card. It lists no buff, heal or shield for allies, so Luka contributes to a squad through damage only.

Who should I pair with Luka?

Arkaya and Madelyn are our day-one partners for Luka. Arkaya holds the monster up close, and in the closed beta tests Arkaya's shield reached the whole squad, Luka included. Madelyn is the other Bow user, so Luka can stay near a Spore detonation to catch the boost and still keep shooting.

Is Luka good solo?

On paper, yes. Nothing in the kit depends on teammates, and high mobility helps a lone hunter avoid hits. We will confirm this once we can run solo hunts.

Is Luka good for beginners?

Mostly. Range keeps new players away from danger, but the stronger arrows need precise casts. Controller support is official, which may make that timing easier for some players.
