Midori in our tier list
B Midori dodges through attacks with style, but the damage rests on timing more than on the stat sheet. In the same Assault class, Luka adds very high mobility to strong damage and Ouyang Varen adds a strong guard, so both ask less of the player. See the full Monster Hunter Outlanders Tier List.
Midori strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Evasion is the defense on the official card, so on paper Midori avoids damage by moving rather than by blocking.
- Certain skills fill the Spirit Gauge faster, so on paper Midori should reach the big Long Sword finishers quickly.
- Players report a fresh account gets 5 free tickets for the Midori banner by mail, so a first try costs nothing.
Weaknesses
- Players call Midori harder to handle than other picks, because the damage depends on landing timed counters.
- One player reports many of Midori's attacks miss flying monsters such as Legiana and Rathian.
- Midori is limited and sits outside the standard SSR pool, so the featured banner is the only route players know of.
Our take
- Day-one paper call: spend the 5 free featured tickets from the mail, but do not chase Midori with paid pulls yet. Whether Midori is worth a fresh-account restart is covered on our reroll tier list.
- If Midori does land on your account, keep Midori in the slot you control. The damage depends on counter timing, and until we see how the AI handles that window, a human hand is the safer bet on paper.
Midori sits in B on our day-one list. The evasive Long Sword kit looks stylish on paper, but damage rewards timing over stats, and two other Assault picks need less precision.
Midori is the limited SSR on the first featured recruitment, and players report a fresh account gets 5 tickets for that banner by mail. Before restarting for Midori, read our Monster Hunter Outlanders reroll tier list.
What the official card tells us
The card gives Midori evasion for defense and a Spirit Gauge that certain skills fill faster. On the Long Sword, the gauge levels up power attacks, timed counters can raise it, and spent levels unlock big finishers. The plan: dodge, counter, then cash the gauge in on a finisher.
Players find Midori harder to handle than other picks: the skill motions are unusual and damage hangs on timed counters. One player reports normal attacks carry no Foresight-style counter; Midori counters only through a charged-skill follow-up with a strict window. That player also says the gauge fills much faster than the Fated Adventurer’s Long Sword, but many attacks miss flying monsters such as Legiana and Rathian.
That explains the B. Luka pairs Assault damage with very high mobility, and Ouyang Varen pairs it with a strong guard. Midori pays out only when the player hits the window.
Where Midori fits in a squad
Players report you control one Adventurer while three more fight automatically. Midori takes a close-range damage slot with nothing on the card for allies. Until we see how the AI handles the counter, keep Midori under your control. One player reports the Assault squadmate skill deals burst damage to a suppressed monster, which needs no timing.
Luka covers flying targets from range, Madelyn boosts allies near detonated Spores, and Arkaya shielded the whole squad in the closed beta tests.
What we will check after launch
Our November 1, 2026 review found no tested numbers, so Midori stays B until the next review on November 8, 2026. Many Japanese guide sites rank Midori first. Ours is a paper call, and these could change it:
- How strict the counter window is, for players and for the AI.
- How often Midori misses flying monsters.
- Whether the 120-pull guarantee holds, given one report of 121 pulls without Midori.
If landed counters out-damage other Assault picks, Midori moves up in our tier list.
What to pair with Midori
- Luka: Luka fires from range with very high mobility, which covers the flying monsters that one player says Midori often misses. Luka is also free from the launch events.
- Madelyn: Madelyn's detonated Spores boost allies close by, and a Long Sword fights up close, so Midori should sit inside that boost on paper.
- Arkaya: In the closed beta tests, Arkaya's shield reached every squad member. That extra health gives Midori room to survive a counter that comes in late.
Midori FAQ
Is Midori good in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Midori is good but not top of the class. Our day-one list places Midori in B: the evasive Long Sword kit can hit hard, yet the damage depends on timed counters, and other Assault picks need less precision.
How do I get Midori?
Through the featured recruitment. Officially, Midori is the limited SSR with a raised chance on the first featured banner, recruited with featured contracts. Players report a fresh account gets 5 tickets for that banner by mail.
Is Midori in the standard recruitment pool?
No. Players count six SSR Adventurers in the standard lineup, and limited Midori is not one of them. One player reading the rates screen reports Midori at 0.3% on the featured banner, with the six standard SSRs sharing another 0.3%.
Is there a guarantee for Midori on the featured banner?
The reports conflict. One streamer reading the in-game rules reports a 50/50 on each SSR and the featured Adventurer guaranteed within 120 pulls, but another player reports 121 pulls without Midori. Treat the 120 figure as unconfirmed.
Should I reroll for Midori?
Our reroll tier list weighs Midori against the other SSR targets. On paper, a B tier pick that is hard to play is not a strong reason to restart an account many times.
Is Midori hard to play?
Players say yes. The skill motions are unusual, and one player reports that Midori only counters through a skill follow-up that needs a charged skill and has a strict window, not through normal attacks.
Why do some guides rank Midori higher?
Many Japanese guide sites put Midori at the top. Our B is a paper ranking based on the card and the class. If tested damage shows landed counters beat the other Assault picks, Midori will move up.
What weapon does Midori use?
Midori uses the Long Sword. Only two of the 13 Adventurers carry it: Midori and Ryunosuke, who plays it as a Support rather than an Assault.
