About this data
- How we collected it
- We read each element from gameplay footage that players shared publicly: the element tag under the name on the character detail page, the element field on the English detail page, and the element icon next to each name on the party screen. An element is marked confirmed only when two unrelated players show the same thing; a single source is marked unconfirmed. Class and weapon come from the official character cards.
- Sample
- 13 Adventurers. 13 in-game screens from 4 players, cross-checked against skill notes and commentary from 7 more creators.
- Time range
- October 26 to November 1, 2026. The in-game screens are all from launch week, on version 1.0.9.
- Limits
-
- The developers have not published elements. If an official list appears, it replaces this table.
- The squad buff column only covers Adventurers where we found a clear claim. None found means we have not seen one, not that no buff exists.
- The Fated Adventurer is left out. One player says the Fated Adventurer has every element, but nobody has confirmed it, and it is unclear whether that counts toward Element Resonance.
- We record the direction of each buff only, not how much damage it adds.
Our take
- Check the element of the Adventurer you control first, then look for one confirmed squadmate who shares it. If the one-player resonance report holds, that pair is enough, and the other two slots can go to buffs. This is a paper call, not a tested rule.
- Fire is the deepest element on paper right now: Raya and Ryunosuke both push fire damage for the squad, and both are SR. We would build around fire before any other element until more buffs are confirmed.
Elements at a glance
Fire, Thunder, Water and Dragon each have three Adventurers. Ice has only one.
- Fire: Midori, Raya, Ryunosuke
- Thunder: Luka, Luxheart, Haze
- Water: Pepper, Madelyn, Ouyang Varen
- Dragon: Pyro, Keres, Arkaya
- Ice: Rhodes
One player reports Ouyang Varen as Water and Haze as Thunder, and no second player has backed either up yet. Until that changes, we leave both out when we count element partners. For overall rankings, see the monster hunter outlanders tier list.
Who buffs which element
The second layer is what each Adventurer adds for teammates. These four are confirmed by players’ screens:
- Keres: the ultimate makes the monster take more dragon damage for a while.
- Raya: the monster takes more fire damage. Raya’s trap does not hold elder dragons.
- Ryunosuke: fire damage goes up for every squadmate.
- Haze: the squad deals more elemental damage on critical hits, whatever the element. This buff is confirmed even though Haze’s own element is not.
One player reports a squad water buff from Pepper once one of Pepper’s Hearts is unlocked.
Other buffs ignore element. Arkaya gives the squad shields and crit rate. Madelyn heals the squad and raises its damage. One player reports Luxheart lifts squad damage after opening the fight, while the thunder boost stays personal. One player also reports Midori’s fire boost helps Midori alone.
Element Resonance
One player reports that Element Resonance switches on once one other squad member shares an Adventurer’s element, and a third member with that element adds nothing more. On the party screen in players’ footage, the icons of two matching members light up and a lone element stays grey, which fits that report. Until a second source backs it, we do not treat it as a rule.
Building a squad around an element
These are on paper ideas, not tested squads, using confirmed elements only. You control one Adventurer and three more fight as automatic squadmates.
Fire with Midori. Control Midori and add Ryunosuke, Raya and one element-free support: Arkaya or Madelyn. Ryunosuke raises fire damage and Raya makes the monster take more of it, so Midori gains from both. Plenty of accounts will not have Midori, since Midori could only be pulled from the limited featured recruitment.
Fire without Midori. Control Raya and add Ryunosuke, Madelyn and Arkaya. The fire pair still gives resonance and both fire effects. If one player’s report is right, neither costs a pull: Raya unlocks through early story progress and Ryunosuke through the Rank Rush event.
Dragon. Run Keres, Arkaya and Pyro, plus any fourth pick. The Keres ultimate makes the monster take more dragon damage, which helps all three. If the resonance report holds, the third Dragon member adds no extra resonance, so Pyro is there for damage. Pyro comes free from the launch events.
Pick Adventurers in the monster hunter outlanders team builder to see each element and any likely resonance; unconfirmed Adventurers show a grey “?” and do not count. For full squads, see monster hunter outlanders best team.
Monster Hunter Outlanders Elements: FAQ
What element is each Monster Hunter Outlanders character?
Fire: Midori, Raya, Ryunosuke. Thunder: Luka, Luxheart, Haze. Water: Pepper, Madelyn, Ouyang Varen. Dragon: Pyro, Keres, Arkaya. Ice: Rhodes. Haze (Thunder) and Ouyang Varen (Water) come from one player only and are still unconfirmed.
How does Element Resonance work in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
One player reports that Element Resonance triggers once at least one other squad member shares an Adventurer's element, and a third member with that element adds nothing more. The party screen lights up the icons of matching pairs, which fits that report. It is not confirmed yet.
Which Monster Hunter Outlanders characters buff fire damage?
Ryunosuke raises fire damage for every squadmate, and Raya makes the monster take more fire damage. Both are confirmed. Midori is Fire too, but one player reports the fire boost from Midori only applies to Midori.
Are these elements official?
No. The official site and character cards do not list elements. We read them from in-game screens that players shared, and we only mark an element confirmed when two unrelated players show the same one.
Which elements are still unconfirmed?
Two: Ouyang Varen as Water and Haze as Thunder. Each comes from a single player so far. The table marks both as unconfirmed, and the team builder leaves them out of resonance counts.
Which element has the fewest Adventurers?
Ice. Rhodes is the only Ice Adventurer, so on paper Rhodes has no squadmate to share Element Resonance with. Fire, Thunder, Water and Dragon each have three.
Can I download the data?
Yes. Use the CSV link above the table. The file has every column on this page plus the confirmation status of each element and buff, the Japanese names, and the date we last checked each row.
